WEEK1
This week I have tried to learn reading notes on music sheets, learning E major scale on guitar, and trying to learn new chords on the guitar. Everyday I practiced doing the E major scale in different places. I'm also learning where certain notes are on the guitar. My rehearsal did not show any weakness because I prepared for the classes and I knew what I wanted to do in class. My target next week is to be able to do the minor scale on the note E and be able to easily do the E major scale. I would also like to try using different chords such as D minor 7, #C minor 7, and A minor.
WEEK2
This week I have been trying to learn the minor scale in E and I have also learnt new basic chords such as A minor, C, B, D, E, and A on the guitar. In Tuesdays workshop we did Superstitious by Stevie wonders and I didn't use the original chords, I decided to make my own chords for the group which were, Dminor7,#Cminor7,Cminor7. In Tuesday guitar classes we learn the pentatonic in the E note. I don't show any weaknesses in rehearsal because I had produced the chords before the lesson. One issue I had was that I wasn't able to help my pianist out because I didn't know the chords I was playing, so during the performance the pianist sounded way out of key and it made our version of superstitious sound awful. My goal next week is to be able to do the E major, A major scale, E minor scale in different places and learn a new scale.
WEEK3
This week in guitar lesson we learnt the minor pentatonic in E on Tuesday lesson. I have mainly focused on practicing the scales I have learnt for the past few weeks, and also been trying to learn different chords. I now know where all the notes are on the guitar and I'm now using the chords I've learnt in class in band workshop. in band workshop we tried working on superstitious again because we didn't complete it last week, so I didn't show any struggles as it was just a repeat from last week . Next week I would like to learn a new scale, and be able to play all the scales that I have learnt in reverse.
WEEK4
Tuesday guitar lesson we learnt the blue scales it was to learn because it is similar to the pentatonic scale but u just include an #A as the third note. In band workshop I was in the hounds of love group, it was much harder than it usually is because I had come with the notes from the song, but the whole group suggested that we should change the song completely. We struggled to find some chords but at the end we did. I believe rehearsal could been better if I and the group were a bit organised. my next target is to learn more chords.
WEEK5
In Tuesday guitar lessons we learnt the Dminor pentatonic scale in two octaves, I learnt how to find threat chords, and I learnt how to play the minor, major, minor pentatonic, blue scales on the A note. in Band workshop we changed the chords up for hounds of love to A, B, and D. there were no weaknesses this week. my aim is to learn and memorize everything I've learnt for the past month and not forget it.

TASK1:PROFESIONAL GIG
The overall performance had a combination of Rock, R&B, Neo soul, Jazz, and lastly Afrobeats. The concert began with the year2 level 3 music students singing 'Tink treat me', which was admirable because they had technical difficulties with the instrumental. Even with that issue they had still carried on performing magnificently. I believe as a whole both students and professional artists performed exceptionally well, by handling their nerves, and keeping us entertained and excited. Both students and artists engaged with audience remarkably, by asking question such as 'how is everyone doing?', and' is everybody enjoying themselves ?'. Another way they also interacted with us, was by briefly explaining the songs and who they were before performing. I presume that they had rehearsed their performance very well because it kept me entertained throughout.
The 2 performances that stood out for me where, 1.Olly( level 3music teacher) astounding saxophone solo, in the neo soul group, And the Afrobeat band ending performance was amazing where some of the artist where doing traditional African dances, and also including some of the audience to dance on stage with them. It was fun, enjoyable and exciting just how a concert is meant to be like. The reason why I loved the afrobeat band the most is because they were able to present and carry out their performance well, also while having fun and interacting well with everyone. As well they had made their performance so unique, that it wasn't like any of the other performances, they went out their comfort zone making risks that nobody else had done. Overall I thought that the concert was outstanding, entertaining, and caught my attention from the beginning and I would love to watch it again. Some areas of the performances could be improved such as the ending of some acts. and some instruments where out of time but it wasn't to obvious.

HOW DID THE SOCIAL ISSUES AFFECT THE MUSIC BEING PRODUCED IN THE 60S?
There were many social issues and world events happening during the 60s such as sexuality, drugs, the women's liberation, and the space race. My interpretation
.Civil Rights movement
The Civil rights Movement was a social movement trying to end racial segregation and discrimination, upon coloured and African American citizens in America. Civil rights movement outlawed segregations in schools, public places, and places of jobs.
Change’s gonna come (by Sam cook) is a song based on the impact of racial segregation that restricted many people of colour to follow their dreams. In the song it says, 'oh and just like the river I've been running ever since' my interpretation of this phrase makes me believe that the singer would never want to go back to his past and through the trauma and abuse he went through living in a segregated world. I also believe that this song has a great affect in today’s society as coloured people are still going through racial issues and police brutality. The continuous repeat of ‘change is gonna come’ seems to show more effect on the word hope to motivate the black community to follow their dreams and to fight for what is right.
Strange Fruit (by Billie Holiday) is a song based on the lynching law that was enforced in many states in America. She gives a graphical description of what people went through by giving a melancholic description of a hanging body. Holliday also shows how white Americans had so much hatred against blacks in the south that they enjoyed abusing and torturing them. According to the lyrics it says ,' The bulging eyes and the twisted so mouth Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh Then the sudden smell of burning flesh'. This phrase explains the agony and pain these innocent victims went through just for being Black. I believe that the lyrics from this song brought awareness to the general population
Say it out loud I'm black and I'm proud (by James Brown) is a motivational up beat piece, that mainly talks about the poor treatment of coloured people. It explains how Blacks should fight for what is right. “Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud”, is a phrase that is continuously repeated throughout the piece allowing black communities to believe that they are powerful and beautiful within themselves. From my point of view this song is effective in today society because Black communities are being greatly targeted stereotypically in certain issues. All these singers were all inspired by this movement, to bring empowerment and joy inside coloured people that had suffered for many years. These singers wanted to be a voice that could change life through music.
James brown: was a soul artist during the mid-60s and prior. James worked his way to the top of the funk and R&B music genre, becoming exceptionally popular. He is also known as the "The Godfather of Soul," with His unique vocal range and musical style influenced many artists such as, Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, and usher etc. During the mid-60s James began interacting with social movements, for example the civil rights movement. He also created songs such as don’t be A Dropout and say it out loud I’m black and I’m proud to uplift society during its hard times. I believe that James Brown music was inspirational as it allowed different ethnicities to come together and create peace within each other. I think that James Brown music opened a lot of doors in the music industry and allowed people to be free of whom they are.
Soul: is a popular genre that started in America during the 1950s till the 1960s. It’s a combination of African American gospel, blues and jazz. Soul was mainly used for dancing and listening at parties or clubs, during the civil rights era. Record companies such as MO town, stax and Atlantic are well known for producing soul music and artist during the 50s and 60s. Rock hall of fame says,' soul is "music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmutation of gospel and rhythm & blues into a form of funky, secular testifying".

Vietnam war also known as the Resistance war. It was a war between the Americans and the Vietnam people. The Vietnam War was a struggle between nationalist forces trying to unify the country. Songs such as 2+2=? by the bob Seger system which was released in 1968, talks about how a high school buddy went to Vietnam and now is unfortunately dead in a unknown 'foreign jungle land'. Another song named 21st century schizoid man king crimson, talks about how politician created the war and did not contribute with the war, but put innocent people into a war that they never understood. These songs are anti-war songs produced in the 60s, to restrict any more death from happening and to also end the war. Bob Seger is an American singer songwriter, guitarist and also a pianist. Motown was the first major label to offer him a contract. Bob Seger also recorded as Bob Seger and the Last Heard and Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s. Bob Seger was an artist that brought many people together by musically influencing a change in the world at the time. Both Seger and James Brown music has influenced me by allowing me to be able to write lyrics that everyone can relate to, it has also given me the confidents to able to express my emotion through music.

Heartland rock is a rock genre that had great commercial succsess with singers such as Bruce Springer, Bob Seger, Tom Petty, and John Mellencamp. Heartland rock is rock & roll mixed with Americana more streamlined than garage rock. It uses more of string instruments and less of synthesizers. Heartland rock is as an influence on artists such as Billy Joel and Kid Rock, who have also performed with John Mellencamp and recorded a duet with Bob Seger, for the latter's Face the Promise album.
Nelson Mandela
Nelson Rolihala Mandela was a South African apartheid revolutionary, politician and also was a philanthropist. He served as the president of South Africa from 1994-1999. . He spent 27 years in prison for trying to overthrow the pro-apartheid government. . The Song Ndodemnyama (meaning beware Verwoerd) by Miram Mekeba. Miram did not mention Mandela in the song but did warn Hendrick Verwoerd, the architect of the apartheid of the struggle to come. Other songs such as free Nelson Mandela (by The Specials), Mandela Bring him Back home by Hugh Maskela, where inspired to release Mandela.
Voting Age
The 26th amendment lowered the age to vote from 21 to 18. This allowed millions of young people to be actively part of the democrat process. The 26th Amendment was the fastest constitutional amendment to have an impact in History. It took a group of young activists from the national education association in the 60s to allow this law to be created. This march began in the midst of the Vietnam war. Students started marching with slogans such as 'Old enough to fight, old enough to vote'. This gained a lot of popularity with some groups hoping to change the system for good.
John F Kennedy
John F Kennedy was elected in 1960 and was the 35th president of the United States of America. He was youngest man and also the first Roman Catholic to ever hold in office. Unfortunately J.F.K was assassinated on November 22nd 1963, in Dallas Texas. Songs such as The Sound of Silence" - Simon & Garfunkel (1964),"The Warmth of the Sun" - The Beach Boys (1964), "Seconds" - The Human League (1981), and “Less Than Zero (Dallas Version)” - Elvis Costello (1977) are songs based on his influential reign as the 35th president.

How did the music industry evolve in the 6os?
During the 60s the global communication around the world had rapidly improved from the 50s. There was also improved technology such as Morse codes, sounds synths and the first polyphonic synths were created. New advancements mostly began in the 60s. The Beatles were the first mega band to ever write and perform their songs, which brought more wealthy people into noticing the records sales levels, and so they began creating much larger investments to the record companies. This allowed improvements in studios, shows, and more records were being produced. Merchandising increased through live events which improved income in the music industry. This technique carried on for years , which meant more artist were coming, more better labels deals and distribution.
HOW DID THE 60S MUSIC INFLUENCE THE FUTURE AND ME ?
The 60s Influenced new genres such as Neo Soul, Phsycaldelic rock, Beat music, Surf rock, Garage and Blues music to be created. Rock and Roll was the main genre for the 60s, however there was a lot of people who disliked and believed that it was unpleasant, or it is part of devil music. But the Musicians themselves believed that the words were extremely important in these songs. I believe that the way we are able to express ourselves easily through music is because of the 60s. It had an enormous impact on how much freedom, equality, and rights we have in today’s society. The music was the key change in the 60s; it spoke to people in a way that could not be explained. It is believed that the 60s is one of the most rebellious decades, because of the continuous freedom movements and riots. The reason why I love the music from this decade because it extremely influential, inspirational and unique

ALBUM ANALYSIS
HOUNDS OF LOVE ALBUM
Hounds of Love is Kate bushs 5th studio album, and it was released on 16th September 1985. This album had Great commercial success unlike her album The dreaming. It Bush's 2nd album that was on top of the UK album charts, and it was also her best selling studio album hitting 1.1 million copies in 1998.The engineers use in the hounds of love album are : Del Parmer, Haydn Bendall, Brian Tench, Paul Hardiman, Nigel walker, and James Gutherie. The producer of this album is Kate bush, produced at Wickham Farm House Studio. I will be only talking about the 3 top hits of this album, but the songs in this album are: Running up That Hill (A Deal With God), Hounds of Love, The Big Sky, Mother Stands for Comfort, Cloudbusting, And Dream of Sheep, Under Ice, Waking the Witch, Watching You Without Me, Jig of Life, Hello Earth, and The Morning Fog.
Running Up The Hill
Running up the hill is the first single from the hounds of love album, it was number 3 on the UK billboards and it was also Kates largest single in America. This song is based on a story of a person who has been extremely hurt from past relationships so he/she wants his/her present lover to feel the same pain he/she is feeling. This song is about pain, sorrow, fear, and broken hearts. Kate uses a skittish synth to define the riff and the beginning of the introduction including the instant drum machine. Later on in the track the electric guitar is included with her unique voice. she has also used multi track to vocals to define the melody even more.
Hounds of Love
The phrase 'its in the trees,its coming', is a sample from horror movie Night of the Demon. Its uniquely sounding synth and the aggressive pounds from the electric big drums begins the whole piece. bass guitar, and multi-tracked vocals are used in the chorus. Hounds of Love is a single and also the title track of the album called Hounds of Love. The song is about fear and the danger to fall in love, in the song they give this comparison to being chased by a pack of hounds. This song is directed by Kate Bush herself and it was also inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's film The 39 steps. In October 2004, Q Magazine placed this song at number 21 in its list of the top 50 greatest British songs of all-time.

This song is based on the very close relationship between psychologist and philosopher of Wilhelm Reich and his son Peter. It gives a vague description of Peter memories as a child at the farm
The lyric further explain how Wilhelm Reich's sudden arrest and imprisonment affected young Peter because of not only the pain he was feeling but how he felt useless not being to help his father. Cloudbusting is a rain-making process which includes pointing at the sky, This machine was designed by machine built by Reich. Released as the second single from the album on 14 October. 1985.Duncan MacKay introduced the synthesizer, Fender Rhodes, Prophet and harpsichord in the song. Kate used the synthesizer in particular because it was part of the new technology at the time. Cloudbusting is a heavily sampled piece that Kate arrange with the Farlight CMI. Bush’s vocals are delicate and soft which are layered over the piano chords. Sampled sound effects distant seagulls and disconnected voices.

I will be only talking about the 3 top hits of this album, but the songs in this album are: Running up That Hill (A Deal With God), Hounds of Love, The Big Sky, Mother Stands for Comfort, Cloudbusting, And Dream of Sheep, Under Ice, Waking the Witch, Watching You Without Me, Jig of Life, Hello Earth, and The Morning Fog.
Running Up The Hill
Running up the hill is the first single from the hounds of love album, it is now number 3 on the UK billboards and it is also Kates largest single in America. This song is based on a story of a person who has been extremely hurt from past relationships so he/she wants his/her present lover to feel the same pain that he/she is feeling. This song is about pain, sorrow, fear, and broken hearts. Kate uses the new skittish synth to define the riff and the beginning of the piece, including the latest instant drum machine. Later on in the track the electric guitar is included with her unique voice. she has also used multi track to vocals to define the melody even more.
Hounds of Love
The phrase 'its in the trees, its coming', is a sample from horror movie Night of the Demon. Its uniquely sounding synth and the aggressive pounds from the electric big drums begins the whole piece. bass guitar, and multi-tracked vocals are used in the chorus. Hounds of Love is a single and also the title track of the album called Hounds of Love. The song is about fear and the danger to fall in love, in the song they give this comparison to being chased by a pack of hounds. This song is directed by Kate Bush herself and it was also inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's film The 39 steps. The ratings for this single in different countries are : UK charts 7th, German singles chart 68, Irish Singles Chart 12th, Poland 18th, and Canadian Singles Chart it was 84th.

This single is based on the very close relationship between psychologist and philosopher of Wilhelm Reich and his son Peter. It gives a vague description of Peter memories as a child at the farm

Duncan MacKay introduced the synthesizer, Fender Rhodes, Prophet and harpsichord in the song. Kate used the synthesizer to make it sound unique and out of the ordinary, because a lot of artist weren't using as much synths as she included in this song. And it was also new technology that she wanted to experiment on. Cloudbusting is a heavily sampled piece that Kate arrange with the Farlight CMI. Bush’s vocals are delicate and soft which are layered over the piano chords. Sampled sound effects distant seagulls and disconnected voices.

Overall the review talks about the production, texture, organisation, instrumentation, who was part of the making of 'The Talking Book' by Stevie wonder, and also comparison of his previous albums. They talk about the amount of experimentation Stevie included in this album, and also gives a great description instrumentally and lyrically about the songs. I think the article was affected by the year it was written because it wasn't able to compare Stevie wonders future albums, it was unable to show the amount of people that have been inspired from this album, it was also unable to have a good comparison of how musical style and instrumentation has evolved over the years . I accept the information given in this article, it gave correct information and sounded formal enough to be accepted as good review. This article was produced by Rolling Stones a popular culture magazine that was founded in 1967 by Jan Weener and Ralph J. Gleason. I believe that the article that they produced was more formal and accurate because they are famous magazine company so I think that the research that they did was more accurate.

This article mainly talks about the songs and peoples opinions of the album. I agree and disagree with this article because it allows people to write down their opinion and you can see both sides of the debate, but I also think it is unprofessional and very informal. It seems like fan club having debates with haters instead of explaining the most important bits of the album, to make it seem like a review. This article has been written in recent years so they weren't able understand comparing this album to Wonders later albums is unfair. They don't seem to understand around the late 60s and early 70s professional artist such as Stevie, began experimenting a lot with synthesizers and new technology, as the music was moving out of the rock era and into the disco decade. Pop maters is a huge international online magazine so I assumed that it was going to be more formal, accurate with research and opinion, but it had more of what people thought instead information where people can learn more about the album.

This article in depth talks about the instrumentation, structure, history, dynamics, different genres, production of the album, how others are influenced, the syncopation and technology that was used in creation of this album. I believe that this is an extremely good article explaining all the important key points that a review needs to include. I don't think that this is an article that has been affected by what year it was written it still has given accurate information about the album. The only thing I would add is that they weren't able to experience the creation of the album to say the reasons why Stevie wonder included certain instruments, dynamics, and synth etc .The newstatesman is a British political and cultural magazine published in London, and It was first founded on the 12th of April 1913. I believe this magazine is very experienced, popular, and accurate with research which has been proven in this article for talking book. I agree with the information given in this article as it seemed very formal and accurate.

This article briefly talks about key points for the Talking Book album such as instrumentation, production, technology etc. In my opinion I believe that this article is brilliant, because it briefly explains certain factors of the album and keeps interested. it also gives comparison of Stevie later albums. Its not the most formal articles but it does give the correct information needed to understand the Talking book. I would they have been affected by the time the article has been produced, because unable to experience the year the album was produced understand more of how the technology, instruments ect that was used. The Austin chronicles is a small online magazine so I didn't assume that they would have that much good information about the album but they did. I agree with the information they gave out to the public it was interesting to read.

TASK 8: PRESENTATION
HOW DID WE START THE PROCESS?
We began with the lyrics because we didn't want have a typical love song, we wanted a song that had a deeper meaning that many can relate to in different situations. We also decided to make the lyrics metaphoric because we wanted the listeners to be curious and entertained, so they could go back and listen to it again. After that we decided to choose the chords for both piano and guitar, the piano was meant to be the ostinato and the guitar was meant the riff throughout the piece. We decided as a group that we wanted to give a melancholic vibe to songs by using minor chords, but the lyrics are meant to be uplifting. Our goal for this was to allow the listener to listen to both the instrumental, and the lyrics at the same time.
HOW WAS CREATIVE EXPLORATION NEGOTIATED?
We negotiated well as a group, by listening to others creative decisions and trying to include
as much as we could in the song that we produced. We also tried to listened to other peoples opinion to make sure they feel comfortable enough in the group. We tried to include as
much of people ideas in the song, but if it didn't work out we would try another alternate to make the person not left out in the group. At times it was a struggle to explain and help certain people in the group because, but overall we made it easier for them to not struggle.
WHAT ROLES DID INDIVIDUALS ADOPT?
. Kyrah was the artist director as she produced chords, structured and organised the song.
. Me(Hasna), Russa, Junior, And Samarth were the instrumental players.
.Lyricist were me (Hasna) and Marco. And I believe that everyone is the producer of this song because everyone contributed in making the piece.
I believe that the outcome of out song is efficient but it could be improved if we all as a group organised our timing correctly an we were more determined to improve the piece.

EXTERNAL GIG
The content of the performance was old school reggae, Soca, and calypso, it was in Lloyds Park in Walthamstow. the performers began with the songs running from Jamaica by the meditations, and Warriors by Gregory Isaacs. After they began performing old school calypso, and Soca music such as Colombia rock, Soca train, and Don't try that by Crazy. they seemed extremely confident and comfortable in their environment, allowing them to enjoy themselves by dancing with the audience and improvising with the instruments. The performers were certainly good at engaging with the audience, for example they would ask question such as ' is everyone having fun', and 'if you are enjoying yourself put you hands up in the air'. They would also bring people onto the stage and dance with them at times even have dance battles. The performance that stood out for me was the 2nd from last performance, which was a song called natty dread by Bob Marely. The reason why this performance stood out to me the most was, because the guitarist for the band did a solo performance for a minute and it was absolutely beautiful. The way he improvised using just basic scales and using techniques such hammering, plucking,and pinch harmonics it was amazing to watch. Overall I think the concert was amazing it was fun, energetic, and memorable I would love to watch it again.

TASK 2:INDUCTION GIG & EVALUATION
I believe that our induction Gig was a great performance, because we had a lot of confidence, good team work and good interaction with the audience. I believe the overall product we gave to the audience was good because the audience seemed to enjoy it, by singing along and applauding us with a lot of energy. I believe the good team work and how we interacted and gave signals while preforming, was a good technique that benefited us to succeed and perform our piece well. I reckon that all the songs, were performed practically well, but the best highlights of the show was the good harmonization by the singers in the songs P.Y.T (pretty young thing) By Michael Jackson, and Come together by The Beatles. I also believe one of the best highlights of the show was when Kai (guitarist) did his amazing solo performance in Come together. There were some parts of the performance where the timing was little off, or we started too fast and played when we were not meant to, but overall we always found a solution to the problem and carried on performing well for the rest of the show.
I think as a group we performed exceptionally well even though at times we had technical difficulties or we were a little out of time, I still think this was a good first performance. The things that could be improved is that a few people in some groups were not as prepared as others which did affect the group in the real performance. I believe my preparation as a guitarist was perfect because everyday after college I would take a few hours of my time, and practice the piece I needed to learn. I assume my performance was not as good as the one in rehearsals because I allowed my anxiety to over power me in the beginning of the piece. One thing I believe I should do is to come out of my comfort zone and try new things like singing or playing another instrument.

The content of the performance that I am analysing is the level 2 music performance, that was carried out on Friday 14th October 2016. Overall I believed that they struggled to interact with the audience because they allowed their anxiety to over power their confidence, which made it harder for them to perform as well as they could. But I do believe that every performance gradually got better as the show went on. The only technique I saw them use was having eye contact with the audience. The performance that stood out to me the most was price tag performance because in the beginning they were extremely nervous, but the audience was exceptionally supportive for the group which boosted the groups confident allowing them to sound amazing. I believe that it was a great first performance, even though at times they did struggle but as a whole they created a wonderful performance.

TASK4: DECADES PROJECT
DECADES PROJECT
My first song 'Just wanna be free' I used the song 'one love' by Bob Marely, to define the structure of my piece (chorus, verse, chorus). I also used Erykah Badu music as an inspiration, to make my song sound unique by using different drum machines and synthesizers. The Billie Jean (Michael Jackson) song had a repetitive chord progression throughout the song so I decided to use my bass as the repeated riff for my piece. In my song the instruments that I used were the Liverpool base, piano and the rest were mostly drum machine and synths. The tools I used were the quantizer, velocity tool, metre, scissors, eraser, fade, mute, and looping. The BPM (beats per minute) of my song is 70, and the time signature is 4/4. I would say that my song is part of the R&B genre, because I used the same BPM of a typical R&B song. I decided to create metaphoric lyrics for my song because I wanted my listeners to be curious of what I am talking about and to make it more interesting.

ARETHA FRANKLIN SOUL 69/ARETHA GOLD ALBUM
(I have done two Aretha Franklin that was both produced in 1969)
INTRODUCTION
Preacher daughter from Detroit, Aretha Franklin was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 25th 1942. She is well known for her cover of 'respect' and her song 'Natural woman'. Franklin is a multiple Grammy winner and is well known as the queen of soul. Her first recorded album was released in 1961 by Colombia Records. In 1968 she was enlisted to sing at Martin Luther kings funeral. And in 2005 Aretha was awarded the presidential medal of freedom, and also became the 2nd woman to ever be inducted in the UK hall of fame.
SOUL 69
Soul 69 was Aretha franklin 16th studio album, which was released in January 17th 1969 by Atlantic Records. This album covers a large amount of different type of materials, but overall it charted at #1on the R&B billboard. The album had positive remarks from the Rolling Stones and music all journalist Stanley Booth. Soul69 was Aretha's 5th Atlantic album, and this album is also unique in the sense that it doesn't sound like any of her other albums from Atlantic. This album has a combination of genres such as; blues, jazz, pop, and ballads but overall it is part of the soul genre, hence the name soul 69. Other than the song 'today I sing the blues', and 'Tracks of my tears', the rest were produced with big jazz band arrangements. The songs such as 'pitfull', 'one more cooker and 'bring it on home to me', are the more delicate and bouncier songs of this album.
ARETHA GOLD
Aretha Gold was released in 1969 by Atlantic Recording corporation. It was also recorded in the New York Atlantic studio, except for the songs ' I have never love a man', and 'do right woman do right man', which were recorded at the Fame Recording studios. The Aretha Gold Album is based on Franklins successes between 1967-1968 with Atlantic Records. The first song on the album 'I never love a man ' was a single first released in 1967, it was also her first big hit of her career, charting number #1 on the R&B billboard. The 3rd song of the album 'respect' was originally Otis Redding song , which was released in 1965. This song was also a signature hit for Aretha, giving her 2 Grammy awards for Best Rhythm & Blues record, and Best vocal performance in 1968.

The skills I believe I posses as a musician, is that I'm able to be consistent, reliable, creative, and have a good sense of team work. Consistency as a musician means to me that you have to be motivated to learn new things, and also to give assessment's on time. I presume that reliability and creativity is certainly Important in the music industry, because if you are unable to come in on time, or you rely a lot on others for creative thoughts, people will not choose you as a partner to create music with. Team work is important because in the music industry you will have to work with people that have different personalities and background and if you allow that to affect you, you will find it harder to develop in the music industry.
as a student I poses determination, organisation, concentration and good listening skills. I believe that determination is important because it allows you to be more eager to learn something you enjoy doing. Organisation is important as a student because if you are unable to collect all your important paper work or information, you would be lost in class. Concentration is a vital key to have while studying, because if you didn't have any you wouldn't understand what you are learning and you would also be behind in class. If you are easily distracted and have poor listening skills you wouldn't learn anything in class and you would also be behind, that's why I believe that good listening skills is a important part of learning .Manuela in my class believes that I'm very organised and eager to learn new things in class, but she would like me to be more confident with my capabilities.
Miyako Caird in my class is one of the most reliable students because she is always on time, she has a good amount of knowledge in music, and she is determined to learn more in class. She also works well with everyone in the class no matter the situation. Reece Haughton is also another committed students but the only thing that is different between him and Miyako is that he is a quick learner and also has creative ability to make music in a short amount of time.

Abbey Road Album Review
THE ABBEY ROAD ALBUM
INTRODUCTION
The Beatles were a rock band from Liverpool. They where seen as one of the most inspirational rock bands of their time. they also where known for experimenting with different types genres such as; Indian music, hard rock, pop ballads etc. The Beatles were one of the first British bands to be huge worldwide, they had eight number one hits in Zimbabwe and Switzerland, and also had two in Ethiopia. They have also been named among the 20th century most influential people.
THE ALBUM
Abbey Road was The Beatles eleventh studio album, that was first published on the 26th September 1969. This was the last album that all Beatles produced together as a band. This album is the only Beatles Album that has no album title or any artist name in the front cover.
INSTRUMENTATION
John Lennon : Vocals, Guitar, Piano, Electric piano, Hammond Organ, Moog, White noise generator, Tambourine, and hand claps.
Paul McCartney : Bass, Guitar, Vocal, Hammond Organ, Moog, Wind chimes tape loops, Harmonium, and Electric Piano.
George Harrison : Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Harmonium, and Moog.
Ringo Starr : Drums, Anvil, Congas, Bongos, Maracas, and Tambourine.
Billy Preston: Hammond Organ.
George Martin: Lower Organ, Hammond Organ, and Electric Harpsichord.
Both John Lennon and Paul McCartney sung more leading vocals, than George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Lennon and McCartney also produced most of the songs on the album. Paul McCartney is the Bass guitarist in most of the song on the album, where as both John Lennon and George Harrison are the are mostly lead guitarist.
PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES
Before The Beatles had arrived at Abbey Road studio, EMI had replaced their ancient mixers with the new TG12345 mixer, which was the first transistorized console in the Abbey Road studio. This mixer gave out much more smoother tones, and restricted any low distortion from traveling through. Because of the low end clarity it allowed the bass to sound more clearer.
LYRICAL MEANINGS
1.Come together : (written by John Lennon) This song was designed for Timothy Leary, who was a psychologist that was well known for his experiment with the drug LSD. Leary decided to sign up for Governor of California, so John Lennon concluded to write a song for his campaign. Leary never had much of a campaign but he did influence the creation of the song come together.
2.Something : (Written by George Harrison) This is the 2nd song of the album which is a nostalgic, melancholic love song, that is based on a love between a man and his soul mate. Through out the song George asks his loved if their love will ever grow. It is believed that this song was based on his wife at the time ( Patti).
3.Maxwell Silver Hammer : The song is based on a man named Maxwell who was a medical student, that turns out to be a serial killer. Paul McCartney had once emphasised in a interview that the song was based on the ups downs of life. For an example one minute your on top of the world, until something unexpected happens.
4. Octopus Garden :(Written by Ringo Starr ) this song is about how Octopus travel along the sea bed in search of beautiful stones and shiny object, to create a garden under the sea where they live. Ringo Starr was told about the story of the octopus garden by a captain, so Ringo decide to create a joyful song about an Octopus garden.
REVIEW
1: The introduction of the Come together song is very rough and instant, which I believe is caused by Paul McCartney bass line. John Lennon was vocally very strained in this song, but he sounded clear throughout the whole piece. The melody is simple and catchy, it also has a typical 60s rock rhythm. The song has the simple chords of D minor, A, and G for the verses, the short chorus has the chords B minor and G. In this song both John Lennon and George Harrison are the Lead guitarist, and Paul McCartney plays the bass guitar and does the riff of the song. Lastly Ringo Starr plays the Maracas and the Drum kit for this piece.
2: The song Something sounds very romantic and emotional. In the beginning of this song it is slow and calm, but as the piece carries on it gradually gets louder through the choruses and the Bridge. The melody is an the key C Major until the bridge which it goes into the key A Major. In the guitar solo the Melody goes back into C Major, as well in the other parts such as the 3rd verse and the outro. The lead vocals and guitarist is George Harrison, Paul McCartney is the backing vocal and the bass guitarist , Ringo Starr plays the drum and John Lennon plays the backing guitarist. Billy Preston is African American musician that played the piano for this piece. The other instruments that where played in the song; Violins, violas, cellos, and a one string bass.
3: Maxwell the silver hammer gives out a humorous, quirky, and playful melody. the chords begin with D, B, E Minor, A, D, A for the verses, and the chorus chords are D, E, A, E Minor, A, D. Paul McCartney vocals gives out a more jovial bounce to intentionally give an opposite contrast between the lyrics and the melody of the song. In this piece they used instruments such as the anvil and the Hammond organ to give out a more unique sound to the song. The lead and backing vocal are both done by Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison also plays the guitar with Paul McCartney. Ringo plays the percussion instrument the anvil and the drum. And lastly The Beatles producer George martin plays the Hammond organ.
4. Octopus Garden is another Joyous song in the album. It has a typical chord structure which makes the tune catchy. The guitar solo makes the piece sound even more soothing and relaxed. This song doesn't sound as forceful and unnatural as some of the other songs in the album. the intro chords are B, E, B, A, B, E, C#m, A, B. the chords for the verses are A minor, C#m, A, And B. Ringo Starr was the drum and lead vocalist, George was the backing vocals and lead guitarist, McCartney was the bass and piano player, John Lennon was one of the guitar players.
.Overall the lyrics in the Abbey Road album is a variety for example there are romantic, metaphoric, nostalgic, and peace making. You can also see that they had done a lot of experimenting in this album which did benefit them. personally I enjoy this album because of the mixture of different instruments, lyrical meaning, and genres. I would recommend this album to anyone, or to people who are a big fan of music.
