LYRICS FOR MY SONGS + ANALYSIS Reseach

MORIMI (FIRE) LYRICS

VERSE 1
DON'T BE AFRAID OF MY POWER
DON'T BE AFRAID OF MY PAIN
YOU GOT TO OPEN YOUR MIND TO FIND YOUR DESTINY
YOU GOT TO OPEN YOUR SOUL TO FIND YOUR TRUE SELF DON'T BE AFRAID
(this paragraph is trying to explain to the world that you shouldn't create a stigma on the black race because we are all human. It is also describing how people in society have a fear for black people and i am trying to tell them to not be afraid because we are all people trying to live peacefully in life. The last two sentences at the end is for the black women in my generation to understand they have understand to love yourself and accept what God has given them.)
CHORUS
YOUR ASKING ME WHY
SO I CAN TELL YOU LIES
THE PAIN IS SO UNBEARABLE TO FACE  X2
CUS THE FIRE IS IN ME
FIRE IS IN ME X2

(In this paragraph i wanted to talk about people in society like to ask black women if there hair is real,  where they are from just out of curiosity. But people don't understand that asking those question can be insulting to others, because sometimes they wear fake hair and lie about their culture just to be accepted society. )

VERSE 2

I DON'T WANNA IT TO CONSUME ME YOU SEE
I DON'T WANNA CRY YOU SEE
I DON'T WANNA  HIDE FROM THE PAIN BECAUSE I KNOW IM STRONG
YOU SEE I WANNA BE A LITTLE GIRL
YOU SEE  I WANNA BE FREE
YOU SEE I DON'T WANT TO CRY AT NIGHT BECAUSE I KNOW THE PAIN WILL COME
( Here I am talking about the mental and physical trauma black women have faced for decades. Now in my generation black women will try anything to be something they are not, even  though deep down they want to be themselves.)
CHORUS

YEMAYA (WIND) LYRICS

CHORUS
YOU ARE MY  GRAVITY
YOU ARE MY UNIVERSE
YOU ARE MY ENERGY
A FEELING THAT I NEVER FELT BEFORE
(this paragraph is explaining how woman is admiring everything about herself to the point, where she compares herself to with elements that the world relies on, such as gravity, energy and the universe. I was inspired by Maya Angelou poem The Phenomenal Woman, in which the poet embraces how beautiful she is in and out. At the end of the paragraph is meant to explain how this woman feel finally free from the judgments of the world.) In a lot of Erykah Badu she begins with the main chorus of her song, I took that technique and included it within my song.

VERSE 1
FLOATING IN THE SKY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S RIGHT
IM BEAUTIFUL AND KIND DON'T EVER BE SO BLIND
I DON'T KNOW WHY I FEEL SO SAD
BUT I'M TRYING TO BE SO MUCH STRONGER AND I'M TRYING TO BE THE BEST

(In this paragraph it is explaining the she has been wandering around the world try understand why the world is so unbalanced. People are judging her and assuming that she is less than just because of the way she looks. Most of her life time she has believed their lie which made her to become so sad and depressed. But now she trying to uplift her spirits and try to be the best she can be ). With all my songs I tried to connect the interview I had with black people about discrimination. And what I gained from the overall breakdown of there views. I wanted to create lyrics that can realte with the issues that black people had to deal with on a daily, for example hate crime. But also wanted to create a story line and a overall metaphoric meaning behind each element and each song.

CHORUS
INSTRUMENTAL & THEN CHORUS AGAIN

ODUA (EARTH) LYRICS

YOU MAKE ME SMILE YOU BRING ME HAPPINESS
YOU BRING JOY INTO MY LIFE
YOU MAKE ME SMILE FOR AWHILE
YOU GOT THE WORLD OF MY SHOULDERS

PRE CHORUS
SOMETIMES SOMETIMES  I BUY FLOWERS
I JUST WANNA BE RIGHT HERE INSIDE
SOMETIMES SOMETIMES I SEE YOU CRYING
BUT I JUST WANNA BE RIGHT HERE IN YOUR EYES

CHORUS
OOOOOH X2
I WANNA SEE THAT SMILE ON YOUR
FACE X2
ON YOUR  FACE
YOU ARE MY QUEEN

This songs is about embracing who you are inside and not letting go of your true identity, even through  the hard times. I'm also talking about the feeling of an unconditional love that is so rare to find in today's generation. It's also talking about a girl that is so depressed, but her friend just wants to uplift her spirits with objects that will die. The friend explains how she wants to see her friend smile because once before the girl was able to do the same for her. She was the inspiration to her friends life but now the friend feels as if she is losing her friend to depression and our society.
